Toxicity of a dietary supplement based on ginsenoside of 6-year-old ginseng root

The dietary supplement “Gold of the Emperor. Immunity” was used in the laboratory experiment in the form of a pastille (7 g). The dietary supplement represents a complex of natural components of plant and animal origin. A saline solution (0.9% NaCl) was used to prepare the suspension. The study was conducted in the laboratory of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences on linear female laboratory CSA mice (n = 40, weight 21-22 g). The research goal was to study the toxic properties of the dietary supplement based on 6-year-old ginseng root in biological models in a vivarium. The objective was to conduct a comparative analysis of the histological changes in the organs of experimental biomodels regarding the changes detected in the intact group. The administration of the dietary supplement and saline solution to female CBA mice was performed forcibly using a special atraumatic probe and an intragastric disposable insulin syringe. Before starting the experiment, 2 groups of 20 mice were randomly formed. Histological sections were analyzed on an Axiostar plus microscope equipped with an Axiocam MRc5 camera (Zeiss, Germany). Pathomorphological examination of liver, kidney and heart tissues was performed at magnification × 400; lung examination was performed at magnification ×200. At least 5 slices were obtained from each sample. At least 10 visual fields were evaluated in each slice. The results obtained when assessing the toxicity in the recommended dosages of the dietary supplement did not indicate that the studied dietary supplement had no toxic effect on the body of biological models in the vivarium. No animals died during the experiment. The results obtained demonstrated that the dietary supplement did not have any atypical effects that could manifest themselves in the form of toxic effects on organs. The results obtained when assessing the toxicity in the recommended dosage of the dietary supplement did not have any negative effects on the body of experimental mice in the vivarium.
