Comprehensive assessment of spring wheat accessions under the conditions of the Republic of Tatarstan

New durum wheat varieties that have not been earlier tested in the Republic of Tatarstan were assessed. Special attention is paid to the results obtained on the first year (2024) and on the second year (2025) of trials of new spring durum wheat varieties. These results will allow drawing certain conclusions regarding their suitability for the tested environmental conditions. The research goal was to assess imported accessions of spring durum wheat submitted for trials by Saatbau Rus Company, the Russian representative of the Austrian breeding and seed-producing company Saatbau Linz, based on the data obtained from field and laboratory tests. The research was conducted in the experimental fields of the OOO Agrobiotekhnopark affiliated with the Kazan State Agricultural University and located in the village of Narmonka, Laishevskiy District, Republic of Tatarstan. The experimental design was as following: 17 spring durum wheat varieties were tested using narrow-row seeding at a rate of 6.4 million seeds per hectare. Observations of the accessions were carried out in accordance with the methodology of the State Variety Testing of Agricultural Crops. Prior to harvest, some sheaves were collected from each plot for subsequent sample data analysis. Harvesting was performed by direct combining. During the growing season, no nutrient applications were made; however, comprehensive chemical treatments for pest and disease control were carried out on the field plots according to the schedule established by the OOO Agrobiotekhnopark. Following the analysis of the sheaf samples of spring durum wheat, their potential and adaptability to the agroclimatic conditions of the Republic of Tatarstan became evident. An objective assessment was provided for each variety. The best-performing accessions recommended for sowing were identified as well as those varieties not recommended for regional release under the conditions of the Republic of Tatarstan.
